Courses and lessons
A course is a container; lessons are the content. Lessons can be text, video (via Media), audio, slides, or a custom embed. Lessons nest into sections for longer courses.
Drip scheduling releases lessons over time — day-based (day 1, day 3) or date-based (unlocks on Oct 15).
Quizzes and assessments
LMS includes a lightweight quiz engine for quick in-lesson checks. For serious assessments, use the Exams module — LMS integrates with it, so exam scores flow into the LMS gradebook automatically.
Enrollments
Students can enroll in a course through:
- Free enrollment — click-to-join on the course page
- Paid enrollment — via Commerce checkout
- Admin enrollment — manual add from the course admin
- Admissions pipeline — via Admissions auto-enroll on accept
Gradebook
The gradebook is a spreadsheet view of all students × all graded items in a course. Cells show: raw score, percentage, letter grade. Filter by section, sort by any column, export CSV. Supports weighted categories (homework 30%, exams 70%).
Student portal
Enrolled students see a dashboard with: current courses, upcoming deadlines, announcements, grades, badges earned. Replace the default with your own design using the [wig_lms_portal] shortcode or a page template.
Certificates
Issue a certificate automatically on course completion. Certificates are:
- PDF-generated from a designable template (drag-and-drop editor)
- Signed with a unique verification code
- Verifiable publicly at
/verify/<code> - Optionally timestamped to blockchain for tamper-proof audits (Enterprise)
Badges
Micro-achievements unlocked by activity — "completed 5 courses", "100% on all quizzes", "first to finish". Awards an OpenBadges-compatible image that students can share on LinkedIn.
Discussions
Each lesson has an optional threaded discussion. Students ask questions, peers answer, instructors moderate. Tight integration with Communities module — course discussions can feed into course-level groups.
Instructor dashboard
Instructors see: enrollment counts, completion rates, at-risk student flags, recent discussion activity, items awaiting grading. A single pane of glass for teaching a course.
